#26 – Inachevé

Inachevé (French for “unfinished”) is in the spirit of the final layers of its predecessor #25 – Guérison, with spontaneity and letting go at the heart of the painting.
Inachevé started as a very “civilised” and pretty calm composition in lilac, pale green, turquoise and yellow, with paint applied mostly gently with different types of sponges.
And then…
Fluid magenta paint and heavy-bodied white met on the canvas in a fairly bold union. I used a sponge to move the white paint around at first, accelerating the move. And then my intuition took over and I ended up moving the two shades in very swift hand moves, making them blend in an unusual pattern, giving the top layer this feeling of incompleteness.
I let the paint dry and realised a few days, a few weeks and even a few months later, that I did not want to change it and loved this feeling of incompleteness.
This is almost the opposite of painting #7 – Inspiration japonaise where I used quite a similar palette and technique (sponges) but where I went over the layers a number of times, retouching each a little bit more until it felt complete.
