My Dream Series started early on without me realising it. It’s only by looking back at over 130 paintings since 2015 that I noticed a flow of Dream paintings and decided to dedicate a series to this theme. Rêve Inca is one of them.
A lot of my Dream paintings are inspired by a place that I visited, a specific intense moment, a strong impression, somewhere where I felt particularly in the flow or a longing, either recalled from a memory, a particular wish, longing, music or atmosphere.
« Rêve Inca » or « Inca dream » is one of these Dream paintings and has been inspired by my visit to the beautiful site of Teotihuacan in Mexico. The labyrinth-like, stone-shaped brush strokes transcribe my amazement at the architectural features of this incredible site and its pyramids. The sun and moon goddesses and universal connection that I felt at the top of the highest pyramid came through the star-like shapes and white veils on the canvas.
The marks which I ended up making on the canvas are not all revealing their meaning to me. What are these? Galaxy, clouds or spirits? You may choose your own interpretation.
In my Dream series, the paintings tend to tell me who they are in a clear voice when I take a moment to step back from the canvas, a feature suddenly striking me such as in Winterreise, Le Cheval Chagall, Totem – L’Aigle Universel or Rêve de Karélie.
In the case of Rêve Inca, the star shapes, circles and stone patterns were the connections that I suddenly recognised. ?
