#8 – Soleil couchant par hasard
March-June 2015
Acrylic on canvas (1m x 1m)

This is the first painting where my memory of a sunset reflected in water transformed the painting, giving it its bold hues of red, violet and orange on darker blues.

Why “sunset by chance”? Because it’s only when stepping back from the painting half way through the reds and oranges that I truly realised what this painting was about… The dot of red and orange paint triggered the idea.

This is also the first painting ever to leave my home, as a gift to my partner’s mother. She grew so fond of it over a weekend spent in Hamburg in June 2015 that she asked me if she could take it with her when departing. I had just finished it a couple of days before her visit.

I was touched and pleased to be able to let go of a painting… And I know that it has found a really good home, welcoming the visitor at the top of the stairway, with its bright, bold colours illuminating the place. And I’m happy to see it again when visiting.
