Painting number 27: Laissez-moi grandir (let me grow) came to me in one sitting in November 2015 when I was in a fiery mood, having felt the boost of #25 – Guérison and #26 – Inachevé.
That was a joyful experiment with my hands, using latex gloves, spatula and colours that I had newly purchased.
I moved to a completely different style, mixing the new shades with an acrylic medium to give a very strong structure to the canvas, applying the medium straight onto the canvas, with a mix of rough and smooth effects – either using my hands or the spatula.
I worked with latex gloves which allowed me to experiment with various hand movements and textured effects, particularly visible in the white and blue shades. I absolutely loved the bleu outremer contrasting with the titanium white to create various shades of blue.
I used the edge of the spatula to add some ripping effects into the structure of the paint which was still wet.
It was a joyful, very freeing experience to move the paint so freely. I felt like a kid playing with new toys, growing very quickly into a teenager, but also like an observer of that growing process at the same time.
When I look at the result, it reminds me of an amazing moment in Argentina, walking on the glacier at Perito Moreno, observing the icy water coming out of a deep crevasse, from the deepest shade of blue to the most luminous turquoise.
Haaaa. That was a big moment.
A big moment of growing up, doing my own thing, finding my way and letting go of expectations. Just like painting…
Laissez-moi grandir.
