Acrylic on canvas (1m x 1m)

This painting was a major learning experience in letting go of expectations. I started in hues of blue, introduced pink and red in the earlier layers, with splashes of orange, made a bold transition to white which turned into branches coming from the sides into the middle of the painting.

The light outside and the slowly burgeoning trees inspired me to add whisks of greens and pale yellows and some contrast on the white branches. I let the painting rest for a few months as I felt stuck somehow, although I loved some of the structure that I had created in the painting.

When I returned to the canvas in July 2015, I had a sudden urge of transforming the painting into a more aquatic landscape and added a transformative layer of translucent white over most of the canvas, only letting through some of the previous layers.

The fluid olive green and other splashes and dashes of green came naturally and I used drips of fluid paint for the first time on this canvas, reminders of some of the colors that I had previously applied.
