Feeling the Light – my artist statement

I’m so eager to share this with you: the video about the essence of my art. It has subtitles in English and closed captions in French and German.

Here‘s word for word what I’m saying in the interview:

“I am Mathilde Berry. I’m an artist.

For me, the essence of my painting is to feel the Light.

Feeling the Light.

The Light is like a universal energy, call it God, the Essence or the Source of Life. When I’m with my painting, I can feel how this Light goes through me, how she expresses herself through me. And it’s something very big and it is sometimes scary to feel that -oh!- I’m not the one who decides what I’m going to paint. What wants to be painted will express itself through me and I let it happen.

Through painting, I found healing for myself on the canvas. Then, some people close to me started to ask me if I could paint for them too, for their own healing or for their potential, and I thought “am I allowed to?” … because it is so pure when I don’t interfere. And when I interfere, then the painting does not feel round, or balanced.

Sometimes, my paintings are not pretty to look out, they can feel disturbing. Or there may be a message in them which is going to touch someone and help that person to grow.

I work in layer upon layer and the painting develops until the last layer has expressed its truth. I go on listening to what wants to express itself on the canvas.

I am Mathilde Berry. I am a painter. I am an artist.”

Voila!

I’m looking forward to your feedback!
